Anne-Lot Hoek (Research Journalist)

Anne-Lot Hoek is a research journalist who studied contemporary history in Amsterdam and Italy and wrote her master’s thesis on human rights issues during the liberation struggle in Namibia. She spent two years at the African Studies Centre doing research on Africa and South America for a project on the history of a development organization. She published a booklet for the ASC on the history of Dutch former aid-workers and their development contribution to Zambia. She writes for several news outlets and participated in a journalist-in-residence- fellowship at NIAS. She is currently working on a book about the Indonesian independence war on the island of Bali under the supervision of Peter Romijn (Niod/University of Amsterdam) and Remco Raben (Utrecht University/University of Amsterdam) and contributes at the KITLV in Leiden to the government-sponsored project Decolonization, violence and war in Indonesia 1945-1950.
